Level 1 Fire Training: Who Must Take It, How It Should Be Delivered

Curriculum, duration, and certification for Level 1 fire training — legally mandatory for all employees in all workplaces.

Level 1 Fire Training is legally mandatory for every employee in every workplace in Turkey. Sector doesn't matter, hazard class doesn't matter, headcount doesn't matter.

Who Must Take It?

Everyone, no exceptions. In a hotel:

  • General manager
  • Front desk
  • Housekeeping
  • Kitchen staff (chef, server, dishwasher)
  • Animator
  • Gardener
  • Security
  • Intern
  • Seasonal staff
  • Even a one-day day-labourer

Curriculum (4–6 hours)

Module 1: Fire Science (45 min)

  • Fire triangle (fuel, oxygen, heat)
  • Fire types (A, B, C, D, E, F)
  • Suppression principles per class
  • Smoke and toxic gases

Module 2: Extinguisher Use (60 min)

  • Extinguisher types and label reading
  • PASS technique:

- Pull the pin - Aim at the base - Squeeze the lever - Sweep side to side

  • Hands-on practice (controlled outdoor area)

Module 3: Evacuation & Exit (45 min)

  • Using escape routes
  • No-lift rule
  • Movement through smoke
  • Assembly points
  • Helping disabled guests

Module 4: Emergency Lighting & Signs (30 min)

  • ISO 7010 symbol recognition
  • Emergency lighting use
  • Alarm activation
  • 112 calling protocol

Module 5: Practical Field Work (90 min)

  • Real extinguisher use (controlled outdoor)
  • Evacuation simulation
  • Assembly-point head count
  • Q&A

Module 6: Test & Certificate (30 min)

  • 20 multiple-choice questions
  • 70% to pass: certificate
  • 50–69%: retake within a week
  • <50%: retake training

Certificate Validity

  • Period: 2 years (post-2025 regulatory update)
  • Renewal: 4-hour refresher
  • If lost: We can re-issue PDF copies

Delivery Formats

Classic (Group)

  • 25–30 attendees per session
  • Two sessions in one day possible
  • Hotel lobby, conference room, restaurant
  • Outdoor space for practical

Shift-Friendly

  • 3 sessions (morning / afternoon / evening)
  • Hotel ops never pause
  • Best for high-turnover properties

Online + On-site

  • Theory online beforehand
  • Practical on-site (1.5 hours)
  • Most efficient
  • Ideal for new hires

Trainer Certification

Required:

  • OHS Specialist (Class A, B or C)
  • Fire Trainer certification
  • 5+ years field experience (recommended)

Sample Case

215 staff at a Belek property in 2025 prep:

  • One day, all 215 trained
  • 3 sessions (08–12 / 13–17 / 17–21)
  • Average exam score: 84/100
  • Failure rate: 2% (4 retakes)

Mid-season TUI audit: 100% coverage = full marks.
